Beth El Annual Beach Shabbaton

December 18-20, 2015
(with Thursday night early arrival option
on 12/17/15)

The Shabbaton is usually held
on the third weekend of December
at The Trinity Center (a retreat center on the beach).

Check out our pre & post Shabbat
photos from 2013!
It's really a great time to relax, have fun, & get to know others in the Beth El Community. If you've never been just ask any past attendee! There are no shots of the Shabbat fun since, in true Shabbaton fashion, even those of us who may observe Shabbat differently at home try to stay unplugged for at least 25 hours, enjoy each other's company & capture those moments in our minds & hearts only.

There are four major activities at the Shabbaton:

Discussing, learning, studying

Eating

Praying

Playing, schmoozing, noshing

The registration fee includes lodging (adults and families with children in rooms with private bathrooms, older kids in dorms or shared rooms as available) and food (6 cafeteria style meals- Dinner on Friday through Lunch on Sunday). Attendees are asked to bring dairy and/or parve desserts and snacks to share at Fri. & Sat. night Onegs (and for general noshing). *There is also an option to arrive Thursday night which includes breakfast & lunch for Friday. No organized activities are planned for Friday morning or afternoon, but it provides time to hang at the beach and ease into Shabbat without the hurried same-day drive.

The common suggestion for the weekend is to "Take off your watch and go with the flow."

The Shabbaton begins on Friday night around 6pm with a Kabbalat Shabbat Service, followed by Dinner, Ma'ariv (evening service), story-time, shmoozing and noshing.

A typical Saturday schedule includes morning services, breakfast, lunch, more opportunities for group or chevruta/Pair style study time, beach walking, kite flying, schmoozing, snoozing, noshing, an afternoon "Polar Bear swim", singing, dinner, havdalah, "Creativity Hour" (a talent show for all ages - bring your creativity, instruments, props and enthusiasm), "Sing-Down" (difficult to explain, but very easy and fun to play!) and of course, more noshing and schmoozing.

Sunday morning starts with a morning service followed by breakfast and a group study or discussion session. Folks then get a chance to pack before returning to the commons area for a group photo and one more meal together.

It's really a great time to get to know others in the Beth El Community.
