"My Friend Abe" A Holocaust Survivor's Story
Wednesday, April 23, 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Beth El Synagogue

Abe Piasek was just 13 years old when he was taken from his family in 1942—never to see his parents or little sister again. Over the next three years, he endured forced labor in multiple camps before being liberated in 1945 at just 16 years old, weighing only 75 pounds.

Join Steve Goldberg, a Duke graduate, veteran high school history teacher, and friend of Abe's, as he shares Abe’s story via a dozen curated video clips of Abe’s public speeches, as well as personal interviews Steve conducted with Abe and his family.

This program is free and open to everyone. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

"Unto Every Person There is a Name" Holocaust Commemoration
Sunday, April 27, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm
Temple Beth Or

The worldwide Holocaust memorial, “Unto Every Person There Is A Name”, a commemoration observed for over 30 years, is a unique event designed to perpetuate the memory of the more than Six Million - among them one-and-a-half million Jewish children – murdered while the world remained silent. This is the only commemoration of its kind in the Triangle area.

We seek to remember them collectively and as individuals - one at a time - through the public recitation of their names on or near Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. In this way, we work to restore their identity and dignity.

People are invited to bear witness to the reading of names both in person and via livestream. Sign up here to read names during the day.

At 6:30 pm, guest speaker Michael Abramson, Chairman of the North Carolina Council on the Holocaust, will speak about Holocaust Education and Anti-Semitism in our public schools. If you have questions, contact Richard De Sevo at rdesevo@gmail.com or (914) 523-5089.
