Religious Services
"Services at Beth El help me feel connected to my local Jewish community and provide a welcoming space for meaningful, traditional davening."
At Beth El Synagogue, we offer both Conservative and Orthodox worship experiences, welcoming all to participate in either community. For a complete list of service times and options, please visit our full calendar.
The Ritual Committee is always seeking individuals to read Torah or lead services. Those who are interested in reading Torah can contact Adam Levine at adamsimonlevine@gmail.com. A list of upcoming Torah readings can be found here. Those who are interested in leading services can contact Sheila Goldstein at sheilag548@gmail.com. A list of upcoming service leader opportunities can be found at the following here. Those interested in reading Haftarah can contact Randi Smith at rbsmith.521@gmail.com.
Conservative Services
Our Conservative worship services are conducted in Hebrew and English. In conjunction with the Rabbi, congregation members serve as leaders during services. Young adults who have had BMitzvahs are encouraged to continue their Jewish education and prepare to become recognized prayer leaders (Shlichai Tzibur) for our Shabbat services.
Families with children are encouraged to attend all of our services. We welcome even the youngest children and provide toy boxes at the back of the sanctuary and in the library for those who become restless. Children are invited to the Bimah for Kiddush on Friday evening and to walk in the Torah procession on Saturday morning. Services for children are held each month.
Shabbat Services:
Conservative Services take place in the main sanctuary on select Friday evenings as well as every Shabbat morning at 9:30 am followed by a delicious kiddush lunch.
Babysitting is available every Saturday from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm.
To request an honor during services or to recognize a special life cycle event, please email the gabbaim at requestaliyah@betheldurham.org.
